Importance of Keywords in SEO

Importance of Keywords in SEO

Keywords are the first thing that you should know & learn about when start to optimize your blog SEO.  This guide is written for a beginner like you to understand the most fundamental concept of SEO & i.e. Keywords & their importance.
Let’s start with the basics & if you have been blogging for a while,  your 95% of traffic is coming from 5% of your posts. What I meant to say, you will be getting maximum search engine traffic on few hand-picked post of yours. Have you ever questioned why these posts are getting so much traffic? The reason is, unknowingly some of your post are ranked on the first page for keywords that are highly searched by users globally or in a specific region of the world. The thing that you need to think here is, who is the one ranking your content? By the end of the day, it’s a machine language (Algorithm), which looks for certain signals to rank the content.
When I say ranking of the content, what do I meant by ranking? In this context, it meant ranking for a specific keyword. Let me simplify the example for you.
You can go to SEMRUSH site & type your blog address to see which keyword your blog posts/pages are ranking for.
Keyword: This is the Keyword, which is driving traffic to a specific URL of my blog. (We also call it target keyword, or keyword one is trying to rank for).
§ Pos.: Position of the keyword in Google search. Your target should be rank on the first page of the Google for your target keyword.
1.       Volume: This is another important aspect as it helps you to understand how many people are searching for a keyword in a month. Try to see this as more human than in technical term. When you go to Google to look for a solution, similarly others look for a similar solution, but they may be using a different term than yours. Google keeps a data of how people are searching & let you see the number of monthly searches for any keyword. This way, you will be able to find the keyword that get more searches than keyword that gets fewer searches
I will let you know how to target keyword at the later stage, but at this time try to grasp the most fundamental part of SEO.  While we are on it, you also need to understand two more terms:
1.       Short tail Keywords: Short keywords those are 1-3 words. Ex: Make money blogging, Professional email
2.       Long Tail Keywords: More specific keywords that could be three words or longer.Ex: How to make money blogging, How to get professional email
Any words are qualified as a keyword when it has a considerable amount of searches (Search volume) in a month.
Long tail keywords are more profitable as you will drive more targeted traffic & your chances of ranking on the first page are higher. More on this later, for now understanding the all the terms are more important. If you have missed something, it’s ok to go back & re-read the concept of Keywords in SEO.
It’s true that writing quality posts will help you to drive traffic, but have you ever asked yourself why you are still not ranking in Google searches for any keyword, or why your quality posts stop getting traffic after some time has passed?

What is the importance of keywords from the perspective of SEO?

If you have understood the basic concept of Keywords, now let’s dive into a little deeper into it. When we SEO optimize a blog post or a web page, we have the option to define our target keywords. This is most commonly known as Meta_keywords. Back until 2012, it was important to specify Meta_keywords (Keyword you are targeting), but in 2016, it’s not of any use. Search engine has become smarter to auto-detect keywords & rank your pages automatically.
Google has already made it clear that they do not consider meta keywords when selecting keywords, and this makes sense because many bloggers who are new to blogging or article writing add lots of keywords in their posts.
For example, one would write the following meta keywords for this post that you are reading: “keywords tips, SEO, keyword research”, and so on.
Now ask yourself – would anyone who is searching for “keyword tips and tricks” want to see this article first? Personally, I would not like to rank for these keywords, because people will land here and then leave the blog. This will impact my bounce rate, and also my average time on site.

How to start with keyword research:

Keyword research is the process of finding the right keyword in your niche. This step is important if you wish to grow your blog/website in a shorter span of time & make money. There are various ways by which you can find keywords & here I’m outlining few based on my preference.
SEMRUSH:
This is an online tool that let you find great keywords, or you can also put in URL of a website, & it would show all the keywords that website is ranking for. (See the 2nd screenshot of this article, which is taken using SEMRUSH).
A good idea is to start by picking the top blogs in your niche & add it to see which Keyword those sites are ranking for. From here you just need to start building unique & high-quality content around those keywords. This is a paid tool but you can get 15 days free trial, which is worth $150 using this link.
Keyword tools:
§ Keyword planner tool
§ LongTailPro (This is another keyword tool that you can download on your desktop)
§ Ahrefs: This is an alternative to SEMRUSH
How to use Google instant search for quick keyword ideas:
You can also use Google Search to find your target keyword, like this. Google auto suggest search query when you type anything, and it’s a good place to start the primary search. You can create a list of keywords using this technique & use SEMRUSh or Google keyword planner to check the search volume for all the keywords.
Once you have found profitable keywords, your task is to write an SEO optimized article for your target keywords.

Keyword density and keyword placement

Keyword density is a complex topic. This Wiki article will give you a fair idea of how keyword density is calculated. Depending on the target keywords, (long tail or short tail), you maintain a particular percentage of keyword density. When bots crawl your page, they can determine from the density that which particular keyword page should rank for.
Keyword targeting is important but stay away from keyword “stuffing”, which is the overuse of keywords on a web page, as this will ultimately be harmful to your ranking.
Different SEO ninjas have different ideas about keyword density, but your main keyword should not be more than 2% of the article length.  I try to keep it between 1-1.5%, along with related search terms or that are known as LSI keywords. You can learn about LSI Keywords here & here is a free LSI keyword finder tool.
Do remember, you can target more than one keyword on a blog post or a page. I would suggest don’t keep it more than three as; if your content is of high quality, you will rank for indirect long-term keywords.

What does keyword stuffing do?

Stuffing your articles with keywords is never a good idea. Overuse of keywords alerts Google bots to the fact that you are “spamming” your post by stuffing it with unnecessary keywords. Google penalizes for this action, as spiders are alerted to the fact that you are trying to trick the system by using lots of keywords many times. This can affect your ranking.
So be wise when you select the number of keywords you are using for SEO. Particularly since Google Panda, I highly recommend that you stop taking SEO actions that do not appear to be natural. If you are not sure about your SEO practices,

Meta title, meta description and meta keywords:

Now you have searched for a perfect keyword, and you are delivering it into a post or a page. Try also to use that keyword as part of the title of the post.
One additional tip: Try not to use numbers in your permalink, because in the future if you want to extend the article by adding plugins or sites or additional information, your number will no longer make sense.
Adding a relevant meta description will give more insight about your page to search engine bots. I suggest that you use your keyword in your meta title, meta description and meta keyword field along with an H1 tag. Also, try to write more SEO friendly articles by using H1, H2, and H3 tags. However, don’t overuse heading tags, as improper headings and too many H2 or H3 tags can lead to a negative ranking.

Maslow’s Need Hierarchy Theory

Maslow’s Need Hierarchy Theory:

Abraham Maslow, an eminent American psychologist, saw human needs in the form of hierarchy ascending from lowest to highest.
Some assumptions of Maslow’s need hierarchy theory are as follows.

Assumptions:

        i.            Human needs and motives are complex.
      ii.            Needs form hierarchy.
iii.            Unsatisfied needs are the reasons of motivation.
iv.            People seek growth and development.

1.     Physiological needs:

According to Maslow, physiological needs are basic needs which are essential to survive. It includes food, shelter, clothes, etc. In an organization to fulfill the physiological needs of employees, they should provide salary, maintaining good working environment providing other basic needs should be done for to motivate them.

2.     Security needs:

Security needs is the second step of human needs, they may arise after the fulfillment of basic needs/physiological needs which includes free from accident, survive from danger, etc. In the organization point of view, management should provide the feeling of job security or permanent job, insurance, providing other safety measures so that employees feel safe while performing the job.

3.     Social needs:

According to Maslow, it is the third step of human needs. Human beings are social animals who always want to live in society and want to consume social elements. After the fulfillment of physiological and safety needs human beings desire social needs like family, friends, society, etc. To fulfill such types of needs of employees, management should provide the feeling of team work, friendship, mutual co-operation and relation to each other.

4.     Ego/Esteem needs:

After the fulfillment of social needs, human beings desire ego or esteem needs, it means respects by others or self-respect. To provide ego or esteem needs management should provide the chances of promotion, merit certificate etc.

5.     Self actualization:

According to Maslow needs hierarchy theory, Self actualization needs are the highest level of needs. These needs are soul-searching and inner-oriented. After the fulfillment of such needs, there is no more desire of human being. To fulfill the self actualization needs of employees, management should provide the freedom in work, decision making, challenging jobs, etc.

Five Essential Skills for Project Managers

Five Essential Skills for Project Managers

Managing a project is challenging. But if you can master these five skills you're well on your way to project success.

1. Planning

Every project manager has to become a great planner. You need to plan your project, the tasks entailed, resources, equipment and materials needed. Create a bullet-proof Project Plan and schedule at the start of each project and measure progress daily. You also need to plan your team's activities for the week and check that those activities are being completed on schedule. You job is to feed your team with work from your plan, and then track and measure progress.

2. Prioritization

Every day, your team will struggle to manage priorities because there will always be too much to do. Your job is to give them crystal clear priorities every week. It keeps stress levels low and helps them work efficiently. Without clear priorities, your project will be like a ship without a rudder - coasting along inefficiently without a precise direction in mind.

3. Delegation

You can't do everything. You might be capable, but there won't be enough hours in the day. So you need to become a great delegator. If tasks arise that others can do, delegate them. Your job is to keep the ship on its course, not man the engines. Delegate even small items, as they still require attention and focus. Delegate even when you could do something better or faster than your team. Remember-you can't do it all.

4. Leadership

Great project managers are great leaders. They set the course, lead the team in the direction required, motivate team members individually and look after their welfare. Great leaders know what it is that motivates their people. They put them in roles they enjoy and are naturally talented. They listen and they genuinely care. To inspire your team to achieve success, you need to become a great leader.

5. Communication

Communication is a critical success factor. You have to constantly communicate the goals, timeframes and expectations to your team. Provide feedback to your team as progress happens. Tell people directly where they are going right and where they need to improve. Communicate clearly and concisely. Follow up in writing when it's important.
So that's it. If you can plan, prioritize and delegate your work as well as communicate and lead, then you will become a top notch Project Manager.

Four EffectiveCommunication Basics

Be Effective with the Four Communication Basics

There's not one 'best' way to communicate with your project team but rather a number of different things you can do to communicate. That being said, there are some fundamental communication options that are applied on most projects. Before you get too sophisticated with your communication approach, make sure you are very effective with these fundamentals.

1. Status meetings

There's nothing like a status meeting to communicate effectively with your project team. The best time for a group meeting is early in the week, preferably Monday.  The purpose of this meeting is to make sure that everyone is aligned, expectations for the week are set, and any issues or obstacles are addressed and resolved. Ideally, this meeting takes place face-to-face allowing everyone to contribute to the discussion and get the most out of it as possible. This is your opportunity as a Project Manager to address the needs of the group and make sure everyone is on the same page.

2. One-on-one meetings

Another great opportunity to manage your project teams are the one-on-one conversations you have with individual team members. This type of conversation can take various forms. A regular weekly meeting can be set up with team members that may be new or have minimal experience. This can take 30 minutes or less and serve as a time to touch base with them, make sure they are not having any problems in getting their work done, or discuss any other topics that would not be appropriate to bring up in a larger meeting. One word of caution... don't use this time to talk about any disciplinary or corrective actions that need to be addressed. That should be left for a separate meeting.
What if you have more experienced or senior members on your team? This is still a great way to manage your team, but it can take a slightly different form. First, it could be reduced to once or twice a month that you get together. Plus, the focus of the meeting can be to discuss any ideas or suggestions the team member has for improvement or making things better. At this point in their career they won't need too much direction, but they will appreciate the opportunity to provide their input.

3. E-Mail

In 10 years it is not clear if we will rely so heavily on email for fundamental communication. But we do today. Email is a powerful addition to face-to-face talking. There are lots of uses for emails - one-on-one discussions, group discussions, one-way notifications, fyi's, decision making, problem solving, etc. If you are weak at email communication it can dramatically impact your ability to manage staff and engage stakeholders.
Be mindful to not let email take the place of face-to-face meetings when you have the personal meeting as a viable alternative. It's easy to go down this path feeling that it's faster or less complicated than talking in person. Email should always be in addition to, not instead of, talking to your team in person.

4. Reports

Reports cover a lot off ground - status reports, performance reports, issues reports, safety reports, etc. You may not typically think about reports as a way to manage your project team, but if you create your reports in the right way you will find they can be a useful tool.
What is the right way to create reports that can help manage your team? Make them actionable. Making a report actionable means that someone can read the report and then know what needs to be done next. The report will not be muddled with a lot of unnecessary details or information that could lead to confusion.
.............................................
The four fundamental communication mediums above are practical ways you can communicate with and manage your project team. The spirit of managing your team can be summed up in two words... be available. Your staff will do well if your team knows they can reach you at any time with questions, issues, or suggestions and feel comfortable in doing so. Your group meetings, one-on-one conversations, email, and actionable reports will keep you in that position of availability.
